August 28th, 2007 - Trips
Our passion for the ultimate driving experience just keeps on growing.
The second trip of the year will start on the 30th of August with a ferry from Helsinki to Travemünde, Germany. Fastforward 24 hours, add a few hundred kilometers of Autobahn driving to Adenau and voila - the next day we’ll be ready to enjoy the track once again.

Seeing the M3 E46 GTR live with the engine revving, is the wet dream of any carfreak that has a sound fetish. So here you all have it, enjoy :). It was filmed at the Nürburgring pits in the end of April when BMW had their PR event during the VLN weekend.

We all know that braking generates tons of heat - just a glimpse of a brake rotor glowing red should be enough to make this point rather clear. Obviously the heat isn’t limited to the rotor only - anything nearby will get an equal share of the heat. TakSpeed has dediced than they can do something about this, and as I haven’t seen hardly any reviews of their Titanium Brake Shims, I just had to give them a try myself.

July 22nd, 2007 - Track
It all began as my idea of a mobile phone based lap timing software. Using GPS is nothing new in the lap timing business, but what made the idea exciting to many, was the possibility to use a commonly available smart phone together with a cheap Bluetooth GPS instead of expensive purpose made hardware. I made a proof-of-concept in a few weeks, which inspired a few other Carfreaks and quite soon RaceChrono was born.
About a month ago, after several hundreds of hours of work, extensive testing and many laps driven, we finally felt that our project was ready enough to go public.

For starters, I still have the 328i
The CupKit has been installed for six weeks now. I have driven the car in it’s current form on Ahvenisto and Kemora circuits, and it seems that there is still lots of work ahead in order to get the car to behave as I want. First of all, the stock anti-roll bars are absolutely not up to task on the track. It is very fustrating to drive 450km to a race track only to see there way too much roll!

If there’s one thing we Finns usually agree on, it’s that the weather is never perfect. Either it’s too cold and rainy, or too warm and humid. Or too windy. Or maybe too bright or dark. This seems to be in our genes, and we just can’t help it. Recently it’s become clear that the same applies to cars too, especially the turbocharged ones.

During the easter I had a trip to München (Munich), the home of BMW. Naturally trip there would have to include a visit to the BMW Museum, which is located at the Olympic Park. The old Museum was surprisingly small, but this is also about to change when they open the new BMW Welt (BMW World) right between the old Museum and the HQ building. Even the old small Museum is worth the visit, since the entrance fee is only 2 euros / adult. So even if it only takes 30min to walk through and see what’s there, it’s nice addition if you are already about to visit the Olympic Park.

Little update from last month, even though the project has currently come to a long way I’ll try to make a chronological update of how things went. Today it’s about the suspension work I did this time.
