Unlike the track event three weeks before, the second Carfreaks.net track day was blessed with a great weather. Some would even think of it as little too good for the circumstances.

The session gathered a big horde of eager Carfreaks around Finland and few even from abroad. Even though there was a lot of cars at the scene, the track had plenty of room to cruise around. This year one very positive sight could be seen at the track. It really is a new decade now: High power monsters have become very ordinary!

Sun kept shining, but it was freezing in the season opening track day at Alastaro Circuit. Nevertheless great fun!

We had very friendly yet professional Henri Karjalainen do some coaching and fast laps with us. 22-year old Henri drives in the 2009 FIA Formula Two Championship, the second highest class just below F1!

Even though it was the first event after long winter, people were faster than earlier, perhaps new surface on some parts of the track helped. Many guys drove under 1.27 minute laps, when measured with a proper 5Hz GPS + RaceChrono, which is nowadays our favorite laptimer no matter where we are.

We had a mega trip in August-September to the Ring. Some guys stayed in our rented villa for weeks! Excellent time and excellent driving once again.

That place is like magic.

R8 Roadster and the 4-door Aston were interesting. As well as some Porsches!

Testing can be fun to look at because there happens some “racing” all the time..

This time things got wet on track. Not a lot of cars with us but still every 997 GT3 RS of Finland attended!

The Swedes had booked two rather different circuits called Ahvenisto and Alastaro.

We joined these days with a couple of Ferraris and Porsches.

The RingRunners boss Tomas had once again arranged excellent excitement and entertainment!

The track season of 2008 has finally started!

Our first track event was held in Alastaro Circuit, a great track for the season opening.

The beginning is always thrilling. Now it was even more so, because many of the carfreaks had new rides. The expressions and comments after some laps were very cheerful. Congratulations guys, leave a reply to tell something =)

Last Saturday I had an opportunity to join our good friends at MotorStars Oy Ltd at their first test of the all new Honda Challenge 2008 car at the Alastaro racetrack here in Finland. I had been following their progress of building the car for some time now at my visits to their shop and the quality and parts they have put into the new car is simply amazing. I told them I would like to see the car in action when they finally get it done. As the weather took a turn to better, I received a call that they would be testing the car on Saturday (April 12th). It all began as my idea of a mobile phone based lap timing software. Using GPS is nothing new in the lap timing business, but what made the idea exciting to many, was the possibility to use a commonly available smart phone together with a cheap Bluetooth GPS instead of expensive purpose made hardware. I made a proof-of-concept in a few weeks, which inspired a few other Carfreaks and quite soon RaceChrono was born.

About a month ago, after several hundreds of hours of work, extensive testing and many laps driven, we finally felt that our project was ready enough to go public.
