Finally the car is visually atleast at satisfactory level. Long nights and many new skills later this is now the stage where I’m with the M3.
During the easter I had a trip to München (Munich), the home of BMW. Naturally trip there would have to include a visit to the BMW Museum, which is located at the Olympic Park. The old Museum was surprisingly small, but this is also about to change when they open the new BMW Welt (BMW World) right between the old Museum and the HQ building. Even the old small Museum is worth the visit, since the entrance fee is only 2 euros / adult. So even if it only takes 30min to walk through and see what’s there, it’s nice addition if you are already about to visit the Olympic Park.
Little update from last month, even though the project has currently come to a long way I’ll try to make a chronological update of how things went. Today it’s about the suspension work I did this time.
Finally had the cage ready last week, the final product is what I was looking for. Strenghtens the chassis quite a bit, give as much room inside as possible and is as light as possible. Unfortunately we discovered during the cage build that the front of the chassis had been bent by the previous owner. Few sad minutes later a friend called that there is an Autorobot ready at ML-Auto premises. Cage builder left the front of the cage still unattached to the struts, so we could first fix the aligment and then weld the cage to the struts. Read the rest of this entry »
Finally got a call this morning that there is some progress with the cage building. So I visited the cage builder and was pleased to see there was now some pipes going inside the car that wasn’t there when I left it. Car had now also the roof sealed up, main bars in place and the roof cross in place. Here are some details about what has been done and some explanation of what is still to come.
Received the fiberglass parts today, I ordered the bumpers and hoods to front and rear. These are lightweight race parts and seem to be very light. Just measured the rear bumber quickly to see how much, difference is 10kg just from the rear bumber. I’ll get measures from all the parts next time.
Car is now having the cage built, we dropped it to the builder today. Should have some update of this in few days also. Finally things are moving along with some pace ![]()
Today I took the shell to a highpressure car wash, to get the bottom cleaned from the black stuff. We used car grill to lift the car and tilt it sideways so it’s was easier for the wash guy to clean it up. First he applied some strong cleaning solution and after that went through the underbody three times with warm highpressure water. All of the black stuff was gone and also the brakes, suspension components and lsd revealed their original color. Now it’s much nicer to work under the car now.
I ordered from our good partner Kelleners Sport a new rear silencer for the ///M. It’s manufactured by Eisenmann, which is known from the good quality and then branded by Kelleners with their specifications. Thanks Andy (from Kelleners) again for providing us with the goods :). More picture and sounds coming later…

Nowadays enjoying cruising the Alps with the roadster and visiting the Ring as often as possible. Live's in Munich, where beeing a carfreak is not as difficult as in Finland.
