For starters, I still have the 328i :)

The CupKit has been installed for six weeks now. I have driven the car in it’s current form on Ahvenisto and Kemora circuits, and it seems that there is still lots of work ahead in order to get the car to behave as I want. First of all, the stock anti-roll bars are absolutely not up to task on the track. It is very fustrating to drive 450km to a race track only to see there way too much roll!

At last a turn for the better! I found a -97 328i sedan for the time being. The car seems to be in good condition and has only 97 000km on the clock. As a first tune I ordered a H&R CupKit with 40mm/15mm lowering and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires. After the suspension and tires are installed, hopefully within the next couple of weeks, it’s time to see how the car works on the track.

Otherwise the car is a bit of a suprise for me. My BMW story started with an e46 so I had no previous experience of the older e36 and therefore had some prejudice when it comes to the car as whole.

Luckily I was wrong. For the price I paid of the car, it offers suprisingly good handling, quiet ride and enough power to keep me awake during accelerations :) It is interesting to see how the 10 year old car handles on track and how well it holds when driven hard.

That’s all for now. I’ll be back when I get the suspension and tires installed and have tried the car on track!

The M3 is gone. Didn’t have enough money to keep it :(

You probably won’t be hearing much of me during the next year or so. I currently have an -91 316i for daily driving and for the time being that’s as good as it’s going to get. I’ll try to save some money for a car, that can at least reasonably take care of my basic carfreak needs. That is: everyday driving and trackdays.

seeya!

Well.. Time to share a few thoughts after a long absense.

I have had the M3 now for some time and it has not been all happiness and joy for me. The main problem has been that I haven’t had enough money for the needed reparations on the car.

The first thing to address was the stability of the car. That I got fixed. New rear bushings and rear tires did the job and the handling overall is good.

Ok. The car worked reasonably. I drove at the road and on track and the M3 proved what it had promised. A perfect handling car with excellent grip and power. The car is a dream to drive on track; after few laps I felt confident enough with it to take of the DSC and it just got better! Also tried the car on wet track and it was just perfect.

So all good then? Happy with the car?

The beauty and The beast

YEEHAA! Got the car, finally! I’m all out of words… Have had the ///M now for a week now and it’s just absolutely AWESOME! Of course there are small things to fix, after all it’s a five-year-old car, but in all I could not be happier with my choise.
That’s all for now, back to road!

After 6 months of surfing German and Finnish used car web sites, I found an Finnish -01 M3, 68000km, Steel Grey, 19″ OEM wheels, HK hifis. Quite standard equipment for an M3, but after an long winter wait my car fever was so high that I went to see the car.

It wasn’t perfect of course, no second hand car is, but it was in suprisingly good shape, drove well, the engine sounded good etc. The car was on a private dealer who was more than willing to discuss of the price of the car, there are few more things to check, but if there’s nothing alarming, I’ll probably buy the car. Of course there are better ones, especially in Germany, but I just couldn’t handle the fact that it’s was almost summer and I had an 20-year old Jetta with no ac, skinny 155/80 13″ tires, almost no brakes, 1/4 of an engine and zero cornering abilities at the garage.

At 2002 I bought an 2001 BMW 330ci, was absolutely blown away by the car and thought, it was the peak of the motoring, at least for the money I could spend to a car.

Two years went, I was happy with the car, did not have too many troubles with it, so I lived happily ever after? Well not quite. On August 2004 I spotted an BMW M3 at our local dealer and asked for a little test drive… just for fun, it could not be so much better than my current car, could it?

* BAD IDEA *
