Tuning World 2008, Bodensee
1.-4.5.2008 was held the sixth Tuning World exhibition at Bodensee Germany. Bodensee or Lake Constance in English, is a beautifully lake located across the Austrian and Swiss borders surrounded by the white peaks of the Alps. Since the exhibition was located in central europe, there were of course all the big tuner’s present. Exhibition was divided into 10 halls and outdoor drifting area, so there was lot’s of ground to cover.
We visited the show on the 1st May and here is what caught our eye during the visit.
BMWs in the exhibition
Well what can you say, I think we have to start here :). New E92 M3 and the basic coupe variants were represented in many stands. The one’s that are really worth mentioning were the Hamann and AC Schnitzer conversions. Both featured new aero-parts, exhausts, chip tuning and big brake kits. It seems that the brake department is still what tuners need to improve. Latest line of BMW Performance parts and 135i seem to feature more robust brake hardware, but currently this still seems to be the achilles heel of BMW.
Hamann E92 M3 features more power, better brakes and some suspensions parts. This car is pretty impressive since it lapped the same laptime in Sport Auto’s test on Hockenheim with street tires than the stock version with r-tyres.
AC Schnitzer ACS3 version included lot’s of carbon parts, improved suspendion, brakes and interior.
This really nice Swiss track-prepped Z4M Coupe looked something I could take to the Ring anyday. Or just stick with the E30 M3 like here.
Gemballa, as mad as a Porsche can get.
Really a treat for Porsche fans were the two Gemballa conversions. Let’s start from the good old Gemballa Mirage GT, a conversion from the all mighty Porsche Carrera GT. This hardtop Black Edition version of the convertible CGT is packing 650hp and 630Nm from the V10. Matt black paint job with the red details don’t need much comments, it’s just sick.
Newest conversion is the Avalanche Roadster GTR 600, based on the Porsche 997 Turbo Cabrio. Also featuring the trendy matt black paintwork and alcantara interior tells that this car means business. Gemballa trade mark exhaust show instantly from the back what this car is.
Audi’s new mid-engined supercar
Audi R8 has not been left alone by the tuners either. There were multiple versions of the car in many stands. You have to love what Audi has done here, let’s hope BMW follows this trend in the coming years.
White is the old black
Sorry fellow carfreaks who have just bought a white car, but… ..it’s gone mainstream. There were more white cars in the exhibition that any other color, including black. So this says it all, it’s all over for the color if you want something personal :(. (Yes, I do have a white car in the garage as well.) Also, it seem that matt black has really become more popular in the exhibitions. Texture paint was something I hadn’t seen before and have to say it looked pretty strange. Wonder how you wax those? Rinspeed’s sQuba concept was also present , this is the Lotus Elise based submarine car like the Lotus Esprit in the old James Bond Movie.
Wheels for all
Variety of rims on the show was huge. Trends were painted wheel, even with the big brands like O.Z. and BBS. Here is collection of what was and is available. Chrome, big, lips, black, red, white, what ever :).
Biergarten, but of course
Since we are in Germany, an event without an biergarten just wouldn’t do.
Miss Tuning 2008
As with every car show, also Bodensee offered the Miss Tuning competition. Here are fotos from their presentation show.
