Mixing it up with the Three’s.
Imagine an average Sunday. Imagine waking up just like any other day. But then, add just a few short hours, and realize that you’ve just bought a new car – no prior planning, no nothing, just a simple quick deal. I’ve always been impatient in making decisions, but this has to be a new record for me too.
Masa had been selling his M3 for a while now, and even if the thought of buying it had crossed my mind, I had quickly rejected it as too expensive. On the other hand, although great fun to drive and track, the A3 was slowly becoming a bit too “easy” to keep things interesting. I’d either need to invest significantly more in it to get faster, or, look at something else. The problem with selling the A3 was of course the same as with any modified car – how to find a buyer who both understands and is willing to pay (a bit) for all the (some rather expensive) modifications that had already been done?
All of this became much easier as Masa suggested that I’d trade the A3 for the M3 – all we’d have to do was agree on how much the difference of value between the cars was. Agreeing on something like this is never easy either, but it didn’t take us long to come to a compromise. Maybe an hour.
And this basically was it – the deal was all done but signed.
I have to admit that I am just now, a week later, slowly starting to realize that the A3 is indeed gone, and the M3 sitting in my parking place is mine – not just on loan, not a dream, but mine. We’ll see if I’ll have a chance to give her a quick drive around a track during the next couple weeks before the weather gets too cold, but one thing is certain – I’m looking for the next season with unbelievable anticipation.
PS. Come spring, I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ll be seeing something new from Masa in terms of a “track toy”.
Loves to track, but also enjoys the more subtle aspects of carfreakness. Will not bow to any one particular brand or make. Accepts the fact that neither he or his toys may be the very best in their own categories - just "plain" good can be quite rewarding and challenging.

Congratulations for buying my favourite M3! I feel a bit sorry for Masa, but I have no doubt that his next car will any less hardcore! Very nice move from both of you, I cant think of better homes for these two cars.
Happy ///Moments!

Yeah, been driving that M3 many times and it is just something! Also your ex-A3 felt perfect everyday car for Masa. I think this was the best deal for both of you.

I have mixed feelings with this trade. Especially when I undestood that the M3 is no longer mine. I drived and modified it with great passion for 2,5years and still think that it is one of the best cars available. It is nice to see it around and especially at our track days in future. Maybe I can drive a lap or two once in a while
So, it is perfect daily driver because it offers me some driving pleasure, what can´t be said of usual daily driving tools. And I may have something nice coming for the following years track days
I like the Audi too. It is very subtle and and looks just like an ordinary A3, but there is some hidden potential available
