The BMW story short

March 2nd, 2006 - jjt's BMW Story

At 2002 I bought an 2001 BMW 330ci, was absolutely blown away by the car and thought, it was the peak of the motoring, at least for the money I could spend to a car.

Two years went, I was happy with the car, did not have too many troubles with it, so I lived happily ever after? Well not quite. On August 2004 I spotted an BMW M3 at our local dealer and asked for a little test drive… just for fun, it could not be so much better than my current car, could it?

* BAD IDEA *

I totally fell in love. The car just was like nothing I’ve driven before. So crisp and light in turns, so willing to pull from any rews, with any gear. I just could not believe it, 330ci never felt quite the car for me after that. I was desperate, the M3 was just too expensive for me, we had just built a house and I just had to accept the fact that I didn’t have enough money.

During the rest of the august I managed to forget the M3-experience somewhat and 330ci started to feel like a reasonable car again, but not for long.

At the autumn of 2004 I took part in Carfreaks trip to the Nürburgring circuit at Germany. After couple of days of driving at the track with my 330ci (and enjoying every minute) one of the carfreaks offered me a change to drive his M3 at the ‘ring. I was more than happy to jump behind the wheel and to the track we went.

That lap was the last nail to the coffin of the 330ci. After that there was no turning back. I’ll keep the 330ci over the winter and then it’s time, I thought. The plan was made. Excecute!

Well not so fast… at the spring of 2005 our son was born, my wife stayed home for the rest of the year with the boy and I had to try and keep the family fed with my salary. So I had to wait with the M3.

At the fall of 2005 I finally got so desperate that I sold the 330ci to a friend, put the money on high-interest account and – here comes the really ugly part – bought an 1986 VW Jetta for 500 Euros for daily driving needs.

So the winter of 2005-2006 has been a living hell for me, tyring to cope with 70 dying ponies and a handling better suited for a kids pedal car. But! There is better to come. Stay tuned!
